Kristen Brooke Schleifer is a Chicago-based independent development consultant and grant writer with more than 25 years in the not for profit sector. A specialist in institutional funding, she has a proven track record of completing successful government grants in excess of $23 million, assisting clients in strategizing and creating proposals for complex, multi-partner, and cross-system collaborative projects, assessing implementation and evaluation plans, compiling relevant needs statements and literature reviews and reviewing project budgets. Her additional expertise includes prospect research, training staff in development best practices, writing, editing, and/or designing direct mail solicitations and other communications.
Prior to consulting in 1999, Kristen was Assistant Director of Development for Government and Foundations at Lyric Opera of Chicago and served as an adjunct professor in the Arts Management and Interdisciplinary Arts departments of Columbia College Chicago, leading grant writing courses and workshops at the graduate level.
A native of New York City, Kristen holds a BA from Yale University and an MSJ from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She has extensive publishing experience in editing and print production, is a visual artist, graphic designer and independent curator and is a writer and critic for international, national and regional contemporary visual arts publications.
