Madelyn Thompson began her development career in 1989 at Chicago’s Field Museum as Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations following a career in Public Relations. While managing the corporate and foundation fundraising efforts, she additionally supported a young professional’s group, created the museum’s first sponsorship program, worked on several capital campaigns and managed a special benefits program for corporations called The Field Partners. For 11 years, her fundraising responsibilities included securing funds for general operations, educational programs and conservation initiatives.
Madelyn enhanced her fundraising skills at the Lincoln Park Zoo, as she added government and foundation relations to her professional portfolio. Moving to the John G. Shedd Aquarium, she managed the foundation and government relations areas for several years expanding its financial reach and supporting the development department’s fundraising goals.
She has more than 25 years of experience raising funds for educational programming, conservation, arts and culture and animal welfare. Throughout her career, Madelyn has worked diligently to leave a more financially stable donor portfolio in place at each of her organizations of employment thus securing a stronger base for future fundraising.
